A Note From MaryEllen
I approach my art as a portal to the unconscious. It can create a nonverbal emotional response that supports mental health and creates overall well-being.
This can open the viewer to interpret the many layers through their own cultural lens. Using visual elements of color, lines and texture guides the eyes to see and follow the story in my paintings. It gives the opportunity to engage all emotional senses-calm, fear, anger, peace, harmony, curiosity.
I invite my viewers to many and varied interpretations and hope they engage in their own personal process of self-exploration and psychological well-being.
Artistic Journey
My first juried art exhibit was as a 3rd grader. The local library had a contest for the best ‘poster’ describing a recently read book. I won 1st place ! This surprising honor planted a seed that had starts and stops over many decades. After raising my daughters and developing a career, I have come full circle.
I now create eclectic, symbolic and abstract pieces of art. I love it and have fun seeing what shows up on my canvas. I rely on my Jungian psychology degree and my innate curiosity to tap into the great unconscious for inspiration.
I have had several juried pieces in local shows and 3 large solo gallery shows. I am grateful for my many supporters and the galleries that exhibit my art.
